More than 1,000 bathers charged headlong into the Firth of Forth for the traditional New Year’s Day Loony Dook.

Thirty years after it began as a joke “hangover cure”, the event has become a favourite element of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations.

The sell-out event at South Queensferry raises money for a number of charities.
