Wales’ Bradley Dredge hit a two over par 74 in the first round of the US Open at Erin Hills in Wisconsin.

Dredge, taking part in his first US Open, secured birdies on the 16th and 18th holes.

But four bogeys meant the 44-year-old Welshman would finish his opening round two over par, nine shots behind clubhouse leader Rickie Fowler.

American Fowler, the world number nine, scored a course record seven-under-par 65.
